LOCAL ORGANIZATION CounterCulture International’s Musiyiwa Anokunda Caring Home for Kids

ZIMBABWE is an english-speaking (with shona and ndebele as secondary languages), developing (third-world) country in Southern Africa with a population of 17.3 million people – 40-55% of which live below the poverty line with an economy largely based on agriculture, mining and tourism.

A TYPICAL SCHEDULE while in Zimbabwe will be visiting with the local churches and communities in Harare for services, dedicating the new Musiyiwa Orphanage (which broke ground on July 16, 2025), spontaneous ministry and humanitarian moments as we come across a need and manual labor for improvements at the orphanage and community properties. Everyone gathers together before lights out for recap and devotionals.

The optional ADVENTURE DAYS EXTENDED SCHEDULE will include a flight to Victoria Falls to see 1 of the 7 wonders of the world, shop, experience several amazing meals and walk into Zambia and then embark on a 7+ hour wild African safari in Botswana.

LODGING will be at a host home equipped with fully functioning bathrooms, hot showers, electricity and wi-fi. However, as a third-world country, any of these amenities are subject to disruption or unexpected unavailability. Team members will be assigned two to a room separated by gender.

FOOD is typically whole grains and legumes and are safe to eat although it is not recommended to drink unfiltered local water. Our guests will have a meat item as well (usually beef). Breakfast is served at the host home, lunch and dinner are served in the community and a few dinners will be served at restaurants (at your own expense). CCI will cover one team dinner at a nice restaurant.

The WEATHER in Harare, Zimbabwe stays between the mid-50s to the mid-80s with the most rain falling between November and March and the rest of the year is generally dry and sunny. The elevation is a little over 4,900 feet in Harare which is not extremely high, but you may still find yourself winded if you typically live in a lower elevation area.

TRAVEL to/from Harare is long and can be tedious. We take a 15-hour direct flight out of Atlanta into either Johannesburg or Cape Town – occasionally needing to stay overnight. Then a connecting flight into Harare. From there we take a private vehicle 45-minutes to Harare where we will be lodging. Travel within the city is on foot or by private transportation. Travel to the extended portion of the trip will be by flight and independently-operated taxis.

SAFETY concerns are generally low and limited to petty crimes in Harare when taking appropriate precautions – although mission trips to third-world countries always carry a level of risk. The safety of our team is our highest priority and safety protocols are established accordingly.

FUNDRAISING to help cover the cost of your mission trip is how most team members choose to participate. CCI utilizes Donorbox to help facilitate tracking fundraising goals and generating personal links to share with individuals who may be interested in supporting the mission. Once CCI approves your application, we will send you all the information you need to get this set up. CCI is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all donations made through CCI are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law (we cannot provide tax-deduction documentation for any funds received directly by an individual).
